Born and raised a Calgarian, Laurel has lived in Vancouver for twelve years. She has worked in college publishing in BC and Alberta since 1985, as both sales representative and acquisitions editor. She joined Houghton Mifflin's college division in 1999. She is very happy that her work takes her back to Alberta, where she can visit family and buy single-malt Scotch. (She saves $30 per bottle of 12-year-old Macallan that way.) When she is not working, visiting family or drinking single-malt, Laurel enjoys reading, meeting with the Book Bags (her women's book club), listening to jazz, and tormenting her partner Michael.
